European Programmes

Cork College of Commerce has been part of the Leonardo da Vinci Programme since its launch in 1995. This programme focuses on those involved in vocational education and training. The programme aims to bolster the competitiveness of the European labour market by helping European citizens to acquire new skills knowledge and qualifications. This programme is funded by the European Union, through the National Agency Leargas.
Students from the Cork College of Commerce have gone on work placements to many European countries and in 2011 students who are selected for the programme will travel to Italy, Finland, Sweden or The Netherlands. Each stay will be for a three week period. Flights and accommodation are paid for by the programme. Students usually travel in February. All students are given language and cultural preparation before travelling.
In these economic times it is very important for our students to become aware of best practice in other countries. Over the years our students have been amazed at the differences they see between our systems and theirs, for example, childcare, beauty therapy and healthcare. They get to see methods of training and put these methods into practical use. Professionally it broadens their vision.
Here are some quotes from students who have participated in the Leonardo da Vinci programme: “once in a life time chance” “a really amazing experience” “a great opportunity to experience the culture of another country” “it helped me to deal with work situations, improved my German and made me more independent”
The programme is managed in the Cork College of Commerce by Orla O’Riordan, Room 315.
