International Students
2008
The Cork College of Commerce welcomes applications
from international students. This page aims to assist international students who
wish to study at the college in the next
academic year which runs from September
2008 to May 2009.

Section 2:
International Students from Non E.U.
Countries Currently Resident in Ireland
- Completed
application forms must to be
returned to the college by the
Friday 8th August 2008.

- Students who
apply to the college after the
closing date for applications
will only have their
applications processed if
there are places available on
the course of their choice.
|
- Applicants
will be invited to attend the
college for a compulsory
English language assessment or
alternatively applicants who
have obtained an
internationally recognised
I.E.L.T.S. or the Certificate
in Proficiency offered by
Cambridge should enclose a
copy of their certification
with their application form.
Those with an I.E.L.T.S
qualification should have
achieved an overall score of
at least 6 and have passed all
modules including:

Listening
-
Academic Reading
-
Academic Writing
-
Speaking

- Students who
have successfully completed
the Irish Leaving Certificate
or an Irish Further Education
Course are exempt from the
language test. See below for
dates of language test.
|
- Applicants,
who fulfill the English
language requirement, will be
invited to attend the college
for interview/enrolment in
late August/early September.
|
- International
Students from Non -E.U.
countries, with the exception
of applicants who have special
leave to remain in Ireland,
(see section
4) are obliged to
pay a Department of Education
fee of €3,653 plus the
relevant course fees.
|
- This fee does
not include the cost of text
books or exam fees.
|
|
will be provided with a letter from the
college to assist with the
application for a student visa.
|
- Visa applicants should
note that visas will only be
granted to students who study
a course listed on the
Department of Education and
Science website (www.education.ie)
under the link Internationalisation
Register. Applicants
should consult this website
and check the Cork College of
Commerce courses listed on the
Internationalisation Register
- List of Approved Courses.

- It is the
responsibility of the
prospective student to deal
with the Department of
Justice, Equality and Law
Reform. Under no circumstances
will the college become
involved in this process.
|
- Students who
are granted a student visa
must provide the college with
a copy of this documentation.
|
- Students who
do not succeed in acquiring a
visa, are entitled to a
refund.
|
- Those
requiring a refund must
produce the receipt issued by
the college as proof of the
fee paid.

Section 3:
International Students from Non - E.U.
Countries Not Resident in Ireland.
- The requirements for students in this
category are exactly the same as for those
Non - E.U. students currently resident in
Ireland.

- Such Applicants should request that an
‘early interview’ be held on the day
of the test.

International Students from Non
-E.U. Countries with
Special Leave to Remain in
Ireland
|
|
- Completed

the college activity fee of €200.

seekers with the right to work must

fee.

- All
applicants with special leave to
remain in Ireland must produce
appropriate documentation to verify
that status. If such documentation is
not produced with the application form
then the application will not be
processed.

Language Assessment Details
International students may be invited to the College
to attend a compulsory language
assessment.
- Applicants who apply to the College
by Friday 8th August 2008 will be
invited to attend a language
assessment on Tuesday 19th August
2008.
The Language
Assessment – has three components
(Written, Aural and Oral)

A
Written and Aural session to be held
Tuesday 19th August 2008.
-
An
Oral session to be held over Tuesday
19th, Wednesday 20th and Thursday
21st
August 2008.
Applicants will
be informed after the written section on
Tuesday 19th when they will need to attend
the oral section.

- Applicants
who provide documentation to
illustrate that they have obtained
I.E.L.T.S qualification or the
Certificate in Proficiency offered by
Cambridge, an Irish Leaving
Certificate or completed an Irish
Further Education Course may be
exempted from the language assessment.

P.P.S.
Number
All students, national and international, are required
to supply a P.P.S. number on their
application form. International students
currently living in Ireland who are not in
possession of such a number should apply
to the Department of Social and Family
Affairs, Hanover Street, Cork, (021 480
6800 ). The P.P.S. number will be issued
within twenty four hours and confirmed
within five days in writing.
